E&S Ring maintenance professionals and executives volunteer to help build bikes and raise funds for the Salesian Boys and Girls Club in Boyle Heights

CULVER CITY, Calif. – Several team members from E&S Ring Management Corporation participated in the California Apartment Association of Los Angeles (CAA-LA) Maintenance Olympics on April 17, 2012, as part of CAA-LA’s ongoing commitment to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Los Angeles. Proceeds from the event benefitted the Salesian Boys and Girls Club in Boyle Heights.

The CAA-LA Maintenance Olympics celebrates multifamily maintenance professionals through games and timed repair competitions. This year, service technicians, maintenance managers and supervisors “showed their stuff” by participating in six challenging competitions at the Salesian Youth and Family Center on 4th Street. E&S Ring sent six teams of two to compete, along with four community business managers and the general manager for Mariner’s Village in Marina del Rey, who volunteered their time at the registration table. For one of the games, the teams assembled 30 new bikes, which were presented to the children for their bike club. An awards presentation, raffle prize winner and bike presentation followed the Trade Show event, which featured about 40 of the top maintenance and supply vendors in Los Angeles.

“It was a rewarding experience to watch the maintenance teams roll in the bikes and see the looks on the kids’ faces go from complete shock to complete joy,” said Valerie Kunz, Portfolio Manager for E&S Ring Management Corporation who serves as Regional Chair for CAA-LA. “I know our entire E&S Ring team was honored to be a part of this event, and give something back to our community in such a tangible way. As a multifamily industry leader in Los Angeles, E&S Ring has a responsibility to not only support local neighborhoods, but also the city’s future generations. The CAA-LA Maintenance Olympics was a proud moment for us.”

The CAA-LA Maintenance Olympics is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Los Angeles. In 2011, the association organized a comprehensive effort to renovate the Salesian Boys and Girls Club on Wabash Avenue, a nearly 100-year-old building that once served as the Jewish Menorah Center for youth during the 1920s and 1930s. With the help of Valerie Kunz and Stuart Strother, the maintenance director for E&S Ring, CAA-LA helped galvanize local vendors to donate an estimated $250,000 worth of labor and materials towards the massive renovation project, which consisted of repairing and replacing the building’s indoor gym ceiling, painting the indoor pool area, repairing parking lot leaks, painting the building exterior, removing unsafe trees and landscaping work. The renovation was completed in October 2011. On March 3, 2012, the Los Angeles City Council and Councilmember Jose Huizar presented Certificates of Appreciation to CAA-LA members and the 14 different companies–including E&S Ring—who volunteered their time and resources to the renovation effort. During the ceremony, CAA-LA also presented a $1,000 donation to the Los Angeles Boys and Girls Club Scholarship Fund. The funding came from raffle drawings at CAA-LA events in 2011.

CULVER CITY and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (June 21, 2011) - The Matteson Companies (“Matteson”) of Redwood City, Calif., and E&S Ring Management Corporation of Culver City, Calif., are pleased to announce a long-term strategic alliance that will result in E&S Ring assuming property management responsibility for all privately capitalized multifamily assets owned and managed by Matteson in California, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. In addition, the two organizations announced an intention to co-invest in new multifamily ventures that will expand both companies’ portfolios.

Matteson’s multifamily assets are concentrated in Northern California, Nevada and in the Portland, Ore. metropolitan area, while E&S Ring’s multifamily assets are concentrated in Southern California, with a strong presence in Northern California. Under the alliance, Matteson will provide investment management and asset management oversight while E&S Ring will provide property management and construction management services to the properties. E&S Ring has significant property management expertise with 8,000 units under management, and when combined with the Matteson portfolio, the organizations will manage more than 12,000 apartment units in four Western states. E&S Ring already manages 245 units in Orange County for an institutional joint venture led by Matteson.

“We are very pleased to consolidate the property management of our portfolio under the capable direction of E&S Ring,” said Matt Matteson, chief executive officer of The Matteson Companies. “I have known John Pringle personally for over 24 years in the industry, dating back to 1987, and I have tremendous confidence in his real estate acumen and his dedication to professionalism in multifamily management.”

Pringle and Matteson are both former presidents of the California Apartment Association and served for many years on that organization’s board of directors. “John and the Ring organization have done an excellent job managing multifamily properties for our institutional division for the past five years,” said John Bellack, president of JB Matteson, Matteson’s institutional division. “Their organization has a sophisticated management platform utilizing innovative technology and their team is comprised of experienced property management experts.”

“I am very pleased to be significantly expanding our relationship with The Matteson Companies,” said John Pringle, president of E&S Ring. “I have personally been an investor in Matteson ventures for over 10 years, and have great respect for their investment and asset management expertise.”
Jim Ring adds, “On behalf of my sisters Sue Caplan and Jackie Morgen, we are delighted to expand our relationship with the Matteson Companies; both firms see broad opportunities for the future.” Principals of both organizations cited the similarity of their investment and management philosophies; their long-term combined multifamily expertise in the Western region and a mutual dedication to ethics and professionalism as key factors in the formation of the alliance.

Matteson and E&S Ring are jointly seeking to grow their combined portfolio with new multifamily acquisitions in California, Oregon and Washington. Acquisitions will be funded by private equity supplied by both organizations, with management responsibilities shared between the two companies.
